Cambridge Audio Azur 650 BD Remote Repair Details

Manufacturer : Cambridge Audio

Model : Azur 650 BD

Customers Fault Description : I think the number '2' button is stuck. The remote isn't working as such. Occasionally it accepts a command, but usually without the desired effect. I know the batteries are OK, but I did notice that after I changed them, they next lot ran down without two weeks, as if the thing was working all the time. All the buttons can be depressed easily, but the number '2' feels hard. And often when it does accept a command, the disc skips to track 2.... I don't think I can open this remote control myself without damaging it.

This Cambridge Audio remote control arrived safely all the way from the Netherlands.

Initial testing revealed that the remote was constantly transmitting whenever a power source was added.

Upon opening the remote the problem became apparent, due to an old battery leakage there was contamination and corrosion on the main PCB and on the keypad that was shorting out a couple of the buttons (see images below).

This was cleaned up and the board given an alcohol bath to remove any remnants of the acid.  Full functionality was restored.
