SONY RMT-217P Remote Repair Details

Manufacturer : SONY

Model : RMT-217P

Customers Fault Description : Remote was dropped onto a wood floor, broke open but hasn't worked since put back together. Noticed there was a slide button in Command Mode function that is missing.

This Sony RDR-HX 510 control arrived safely and on inspection was found to have a back that was split in 2 part, a faulty battery cover and a missing button slider.

The control was found to be dead and on inspecting the main PCB there were 2 problems found, the first was that there was a large amount of liquid contamination over the main PCB (see  image) and also one of the battery terminals had broken away meaning no power was getting to the board.

The board was given an alcohol bath to remove the contaminants and the keypad washed down.  Then the battery terminal was soldered back into place, this restored the functionality of the control.

Please note that the slider select button is missing and this cannot be replaced but as this is a rarely used switch it has been ignored.

The case was glued back together
